The 2026-27 MLB Free Agent Power Rankings: June Update
The 2026 MLB season is more than a third of the way through, and the free agent class is looking thinner than expected. With injuries and poor performances from top names, the crop of free agents is considered the thinnest in recent memory. However, there are still solid contributors available, and one true marquee free agent, who recently had elbow surgery, is in the mix.
The rankings are based on earning power, not potential impact in 2027 or 2028. Tarik Skubal, a left-handed pitcher, is on a fast track to recovery after a recent elbow surgery. He's been the best pitcher in baseball since 2024 and is expected to set a new record for the largest contract ever signed by a pitcher.
Freddy Peralta, a right-handed pitcher, is having a very good season and getting better as it progresses. He's a playoff-caliber starter with a 3.38 ERA and a 23.9% strikeout rate. Jazz Chisholm Jr., a second baseman, is a clear candidate to receive and reject a qualifying offer, and his poor April performance is unlikely to matter much.
Michael King, a right-handed pitcher, is not a free agent yet but can opt out of his contract. He's had a solid season with a 3.41 ERA and a 23.3% strikeout rate. Randy Arozarena, an outfielder, has been consistently above-average but is capped by his age and position.
Brandon Lowe, a second baseman, has a long track record of hitting for power and is doing so at a level we haven't seen from him since 2020-21. Casey Mize, a right-handed pitcher, is a reliable mid-rotation starter and can land a healthy contract.
Luis Arraez, a second baseman, has improved defensively and is passable at the keystone, opening up his market. Adrian Morejon, a left-handed reliever, has some of the best stuff of any southpaw in the game.
Ian Happ, an outfielder, is having a productive season with a spike in strikeout rate. He's a top defensive left fielder and has won the NL Gold Glove in four straight seasons.
These rankings are subject to change as the season progresses, and players can improve or decline. The free agent class is a grim one, and teams will need to make smart decisions to find solid contributors.
