Shanaya Kapoor's Journey: From Debut to Survival Thriller 'Tu Ya Main' (2026)

From a Dream to a Deadly Swim: Shanaya Kapoor Dives into Her Thrilling Second Act!

Emerging onto the scene with an insatiable hunger to explore every facet of acting, newcomer Shanaya Kapoor finds herself on the precipice of a thrilling new adventure with her second film, the survival thriller "Tu Ya Main." This project sees her stepping into the shoes of a social media influencer, a role that she feels was a matter of destiny.

Shanaya, the daughter of esteemed actors Sanjay Kapoor and Mahi Gill, recently made her acting debut in "Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan" alongside Vikrant Massey. She openly credits casting director Mukesh Chhabra for recognizing her potential and offering her the opportunity to audition for "Tu Ya Main." "When I read the scenes, I found them super fun, I was like, it's destiny that allowed me to be there at the right time, right moment and Mukesh sir for thinking of me in the first place that I got the chance to audition," she shared. As she's just beginning her journey, Shanaya describes herself as an "open book," eager to "explore everything" and discover her unique artistic path.

But here's where it gets truly gripping: "Tu Yaa Main" plunges audiences into a high-stakes survival narrative. The film centers on social media influencers, portrayed by Shanaya and Adarsh Gourav, whose romantic getaway takes a terrifying turn when they become trapped in a swimming pool with a crocodile. Talk about a plot twist that ups the ante!

Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, this intense thriller is set to make a splash in theaters on February 13.

Shanaya's debut film, "Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan," may not have set the box office ablaze, but for the aspiring actress, seeing herself on the big screen for the very first time was an undeniable "big achievement." She reflects, "I wouldn't say that it (film) didn't receive love. It didn't reflect in the numbers. But for me, it was a moment, I was happy seeing myself on the big screen. For me, that was that moment that I've been waiting for." She emphasizes the importance of cherishing such milestones, even if it meant being alone in the theater, soaking in the experience. "It was my first movie and it's very special to me, it always will be, no matter what."

Instead of dwelling on past results, Shanaya's focus is firmly set on her current endeavor, "Tu Yaa Main." Her ambition is clear: "I'm an actor, I want my films to do well, I want the audiences to go in, and like it (theatre) should be jam-packed. I want that and that is the dream and that's what I'm working towards and that is the aim and motivation."

To embody her character, Avani, a social media influencer, Shanaya immersed herself in the world of survival thrillers, studying classics like "Jaws," "Crawl," and "The Meg." And this is the part most people miss: she also engaged in an unconventional acting exercise with her coach, Atul Mongia. "Adarsh introduced me to this technique in Atul sir's workshop. At first when I heard it, I was like, 'I don't know if this is for me and if I can do it'. But I gave it a shot and it really helped." She found inspiration in the graceful, sensual, and confident movements of the black panther, a quality she aimed to infuse into Avani's persona. "My character Avani has that sensual side where you feel a little intimidated and she's just gazing, she's not looking at you in a way that you get scared, but there's something about her look," Shanaya explained.

"Tu Yaa Main" is brought to life by producers Aanand L Rai, Himanshu Sharma, and Vinod Bhanushali.
